INSPIRATION

Moved to Leitrim from Australia. Had spent some time out there studying the principles of permaculture and mud brick construction. Moved back to Ireland with his family, had to make a sunny room to cope with the weather in Ireland. Extended onto the cottage a long room and conservatory that is now half a living space and the other half a storage/drying area.

Did a permaculture course at the Ark Clones, run by Kate and Marcus Mc Cabe .Worked on the construction of their hemp lime office.   Now works as a builder and was keen to work with lime and hemp on his own build and then on his other jobs. Wanted  to find an economical way of doing it through using local clay and straw. Created a trial wall 10 years ago where you can clearly see the different materials used and how they have weathered; he uses this to convince people of its lasting qualities.  Interest is economical as well as environmental.

Keen to combat the negative connotations of the ‘mud house’. Wants to show how they can hold their own against the new build and also to promote the good feel you get to a mud home.
